Out of the Frying Pan, Into the Fire

Last week of summer school, first (official) week of summer! And this week is a scorcher!
High 90's all week coupled with a broken air conditioner makes for some hot models.

While the air conditioning is on its way to being fixed, we tried to find ways to escape the heat.  Homemade popsicles, rotating fans, and the local library have been our best friends this week.

Instead of further heating the house by cooking dinner, the models ventured out in search of a cooler place-- and, of course, did a little modeling on the way.

Margaux's shorts are part of the thrifting finds-- while they started as unshapely capri's, a little tinkering and know-how changed them into a cute '50's style!

Our house has been known to get as hot as 97 degrees.
But we are models.  So we glisten in silence.

Dreaming of 80 degree weather...
We have been ensured by Mark McGwire (our maintenance man) that our air conditioning will be fixed tomorrow.

Until then, you can always expect us to....

A Model Life

The models have been busy lately! We've been relaxing and enjoying our summer.
Here's a montage of our celebrity life.

We started our thrifting morning with a healthy breakfast of Donuts, coffee and chocolate milk.

We've been busy updating our wardrobes! First, brainstorming little potential makeovers at the fabric store, followed by some serious thrifting and finding some excellent new attire.

We took a break from our new fashion line to head to Aurora, Missouri to watch Brave and the Avengers at a drive in movie theater!  We brought s'mores and friends!

Brave and the smores were a little iffy

The chocolate was melty so we had to sqeeze it out onto our graham crackers...

The models adventured out into thrift stores, looking for gems to DIY.  Margaux bought a Star Trek jumpsuit along with a few dresses. We've been hard at work modifying these dresses. Here's a sneak peek of Kathleen's skirt refashion. The rest will be modeled this week.

Altering old-lady clothing to be young, fresh, and hip can be quite a challenge.  We took out our frustration by eating homemade rocket-pops and going for evening walks.
But we are models.
So we persisted until several trendy new pieces were added to our model wardrobes.

Model-ccinos

After roughing it for the weekend, we found ourselves needing a touch of urban class.
So we treated ourselves to homemade iced coffees.

Mmm... delish!

Of course, with all that caffeine interesting things are bound to happen...

 Sometimes, our inner dinosaur escapes...

And we can't help but enjoy ourselves.

But we are models.  So we are always composed.

Camping in Miniskirts

That's right folks!  You have never seen models this rugged.  After surprising our dad on Thursday for an early Father's Day, we trekked to Steelville, Missouri to camp with our model friends.

Nothing like picking out firewood in a mini!

Friday night saw us chowing down on some tasty s'mores once we pitched our tents.  After some catching up, we decided to hit the sack so we'd be plenty rested for our float trip in the morning.

Early morning noisy crows make for more than slightly cranky models.

Lucky for us, we had some male models to do the manual labor.

Once once on the river we immediately started to have a blast.
It's hard not when surrounded by good company!

Natural Models
There is nothing like taking photos in old-school style:  buy a waterproof throw-away camera at the gift-shop and hope your photos come out alright!

Even on the river, we've got what it takes.

Every time the raft bottoms out in shallow waters is an opportunity to strike a model pose.

Model love.

Water shot.

The best things about rivers is the perfect impromptu backdrops.

Somebody...it may or may not have been an extremely talented  model... kept winding the film of the camera so the raft took its own unique pictures.  Whoops!

Posing on a moving raft takes poise, balance, and guts.

Our float ended up lasting around 8 hours... more than enough even for these seasoned models!  Needless to say, our sensitive model skin is paying for the fun in the sun even though we applied sunscreen liberally all day.
But we are models.  So at least we're tan.

Welcome to Model Island.

When we got back to camp, we enjoyed a delish cook-out before we retired early for the night.

It was a good thing, too!  It wasn't 5 minutes after Kathleen entered her tent for the night that the heavens opened and dumped buckets of water on the models' tents.  Huddled together, we watched the lightning flash, listened to the howling of the wind and the pounding of the rain, hoping against hope that we had the Little Tent That Could.  Hours of rain drenched the world around us, but the tents held up and we stayed dry all night.

The next morning, on the way out of town, we decided Steeleville was too quaint a place to pass by without a proper modeling shoot.

Each business was accompanied by a hand-painted half-canoe.  Perfect for posing.
